Tips & Troubleshooting

Android Tips

  1. A simple reboot often fixes issues with your digital media players. Always begin your troubleshooting process with a reboot of the media player.
  2. Another common problem is that the unit is powered off, or the display is powered off. Make sure you have power going to both the media player and the screen. Check the power connections to make sure they area seated properly.
  3. Confirm your cables are seated properly. For instance, a loose HDMI at the screen or at the media player will cause you to loose signal to your display.
  4. Xibo is set to auto launch once it is installed on your player. If you need to stop Xibo in order to adjust settings, you can hover over the top right corner. A taskbar will drop down from the top of the screen. Click on "Settings" to adjust and Xibo related Settings. To adjust and Android settings, click anywhere on the screen to exit the program.
  5. To see information related to your Xibo including errors, system stats, etc,  hover over the top right corner.A taskbar will drop down from the top of the screen. Select "Status".
  6. Make sure your Xibo is connected to the internet at all times. It will not receive updates you created in the CMS without being connected to the internet.

    Recommended CMS Settings:

  7. Make sure you assign a Default Layout to each of your Displays. This Default Layout will play if you have no content scheduled so that you always have content on your screen. However, you will want to make sure you schedule content via the Scheduler as a best practice. The Default Layout is a backup for emergency situations.
We recommend you assign an existing Layout as a Default Layout that contains only content that does not expire.
  8. Look in the “Settings” link under Administration in the left navigation panel. You will find many default settings here for still images, power point, layout defaults, enabling Library Tidy, etc.
  9. If you have a custom Display Setting you need to create, you can do it in the CMS under Display Settings, which is located in the left navigation panel. Here, you can Add and new Profile, or adjust the settings of the existing default profiles which are Windows and Android.
  10. Is your content taking to long to update? The CMS's default Collect Interval in each Display Profile are set at 15 minutes. You can shorten this to 1 minute to speed up the process of content being refreshed.
  11. Keep your file sizes small and manageable as possible. This keeps storage space open on your CMS and makes it easier for your digital media player to play back your content.

    Other Considerations:

  12. Use a wireless keyboard and mouse with your Xibo or Digtial Media Player. It makes it easy to work with the player in the case of it being mounted to the back of a Display.
  13. Use videos that are MP4, encoded to h.264 for best results. You can use wmv., however you will need to add a special decoder to your browser to view any wmv file in "Preview Layout" in Xibo.
  14. Your layout will be marked as invalid, and will not be sent to the display if you have any Regions that are blank/have no media items assigned. If you aren't going to apply a media item to a Region, delete it.
